Promise United Church of Christ

Building a Sacred Community, One Life, One Soul at a Time.

We are an Open and Affirming, progressive, congregation located in Dallas, TX.  We believe that to love one another means getting vaccinated, wearing a mask, proper handwashing, and social distancing.

At Promise United Church of Christ, we know that inspiration opens hearts. An open heart is an open mind and an open mind is one that can practice tolerance, experience gratitude, and feel the glory of God. It is our belief that God is present in all of us. We are dedicated to the service of God and all of God's people. Our goal is to provide a place of welcome, inspire an active spirit of mission, and create a safe space to wrestle with questions about our faith. We invite you to become a part of our growing congregation.

Your presence adds to our worship and our faith journey!

Journeying Through Our Faith

What does being a person of faith mean to you? How does your faith renew/restore you and help you to care for all of God's Creation? How has God equipped you for your ministry?

Just a few of the questions that we explore each week as we gather to praise and pray!

Prayer is a vital part of our faith as we believe prayer changes things because prayer changes us! Come and be a part of our prayer ministry!

Ewing House Mission

Join us as we share a meal with our brothers and sisters at Ewing House, the first Thursday of each month. Ewing House is a care center in our community supported by AIDS services of Dallas (ASD).

"The mission of ASD is to create and strengthen healthy communities through the delivery of quality, affordable, service-enriched housing for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS. ASD's mission includes advocacy, education, and the development of affordable housing options and community development opportunities, both for its residents living with HIV/AIDS and for economically disadvantaged people."

What's  Happening in Our Lives

No Matter Who You Are, or Where You Are on Life's Journey, You are WELCOME Here!

Promise United Church of Christ has been actively involved with the greater Dallas community since May 18, 1997.

We have moved to 3403 Shelley Drive, Dallas, sharing worship space at Living Faith Covenant Church.  We now worship every Sunday at 10 a.m. We are the faithful people of Promise and we seek to live into our faith and the call that God has placed upon our hearts to serve our community and world at large.

We join together in listening to the still speaking voice of God.

What We Believe

We believe in the triune God: Creator, resurrected Christ, the sole Head of the church, and the Holy Spirit, who guides and brings about the creative and redemptive work of God in the world.

We believe that each person is unique and valuable. It is the will of God that every person belong to a family of faith where they have a strong sense of being valued and loved.

We believe that each person is on a spiritual journey and that each of us is at a different stage of that journey.

We believe that the persistent search for God produces an authentic relationship with God, engendering love, strengthening faith, dissolving guilt, and giving life purpose and direction.

We believe that all of the baptized 'belong body and soul to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.' No matter who – no matter what – no matter where we are on life's journey – notwithstanding race, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, class or creed – we all belong to God and to one worldwide community of faith. All persons baptized – past, present and future – are connected to each other and to God through the sacrament of baptism.

We baptize during worship when the community is present because baptism includes the community's promise of 'love, support and care' for the baptized – and we promise that we won't take it back – no matter where your journey leads you.

We believe that all people of faith are invited to join Christ at Christ's table for the sacrament of Communion. Just as many grains of wheat are gathered to make one loaf of bread and many grapes are gathered to make one cup of wine, we, the many people of God, are made one in the body of Christ, the church. The breaking of bread and the pouring of wine reminds us of the costliness of Christ's sacrifice and the discipleship to which we are all called. In the breaking of bread, we remember and celebrate Christ's presence among us along with a 'cloud of witnesses' – our ancestors, family and friends who have gone before us. It is a great mystery; we claim it by faith.

We believe the UCC is called to be a united and uniting church. "That they may all be one." (John 17:21) "In essentials–unity, in nonessentials–diversity, in all things–charity," These UCC mottos survive because they touch core values deep within us. The UCC has no rigid formulation of doctrine or attachment to creeds or structures. Its overarching creed is love.

UCC pastors and teachers are known for their commitment to excellence in theological preparation, interpretation of the scripture and justice advocacy

"We believe in a God that is still speaking, a God that is all-loving and inclusive.  We are a church that welcomes and accepts everyone as they are, where your mind is nourished as much as your soul.

We are a church where Jesus the healer meets Jesus the revolutionary, and where together, we grow a just and peaceful world."  (UCC.org)
